College Offers Bachelor's Degree In Systems Security

As the nation continues to adapt to the realities of terrorism and businesses grow ever more reliant on computer systems and the Internet, the need for cyber-security grows exponentially. The Westwood College of Technology's Bachelor's degree program in Information Systems Security is one of the first in the nation to address this unprecedented demand for professionals who can defend information systems from penetration and attack.

Classes in the new degree program start in August at the Anaheim, Inland Empire (Upland) and Los Angeles campuses. Admission Representatives are available to assist prospective students.

The February 2003 release of the Bush administration's "National Strategy to Secure Cyberspace" increases focus on information systems security at the national level. At the same time, major corporations and small businesses alike doing business over the Internet have grown painfully aware of the damage that can be caused by malicious hackers. Security breaches and network failures can quickly bring a company to its knees.

"There's no question of the demand for cybersecurity," said Westwood President Jamie Turner. "As technology grows, so will the demand for highly skilled workers in this field. Westwood is pleased to be among the first to offer a program focused on this area that is so critical to our interconnected world. Our graduates will have very marketable skills that most of their peers won't have."

Westwood developed its information systems security program with a team of industry experts. The curriculum covers the full breadth of security topics emerging in industry today, focusing on both the global and local level -- an accurate reflection of security issues in the real world. Students will take a career-focused, hands-on approach rather than large classes and lectures.

"Our students will be able to identify security risks, develop countermeasures using firewall systems and attack recognition technologies, and manage the deployment of security solutions," said Westwood Vice President of Campus Admissions Rick Yaconis. "They'll also have lifelong access to Westwood's tuition-free retraining, which is especially valuable for technology professionals. Graduates will be a tremendous asset in the workplace."

August and October classes in the Information Systems Security program are expected to fill quickly. Westwood students can earn a B.S. degree in under three years. In addition to fast-track learning and tuition-free retraining, class credit is granted for relevant college work already completed. Westwood also offers career development services to its students and graduates. Prospective students can find more information or register online at www.WestwoodCollege.com, or by calling 877-650-5050 for the Anaheim campus, 866-288-9488 for the Inland Empire campus or 877-377-4600 for the Los Angeles campus.
