InView Software Ships Momentum 1.0
For Linux
InView Software, Inc., a provider of distributed, collaborative desktop
software, shipped Momentum 1.0 for Linux. Momentum is a Shared Information
Manager (SIM) that helps individuals and teams better organize their daily
activities, documents, and data.
Momentum users create workspaces containing documents that they would like
to
share and then invite other users to join that workspace. Momentum users can
work collaboratively on documents such as drawings, charts, timelines, and
outlines using Momentum's built-in instant messaging, real-time collaboration
capabilities, change notifications, and document versioning. Written in Java
and supporting the JXTA peer-to-peer protocols, Momentum also integrates with
many popular desktop applications, including Sun Microsystems' StarOffice.
"New end-user applications such as Momentum 1.0 for Linux will help Linux
achieve greater adoption on the desktop by mainstream business users," said
Curtis Sasaki, vice president of Desktop Solutions at Sun Microsystems.
"Momentum adds real value for StarOffice customers by connecting people and
information. Since Momentum also runs on Windows and allows users to
collaborate across Linux and Windows desktops, this capability further
enhances interoperability and eases integration."
The Linux version of Momentum complements the Windows version, which has
been
available since March. "From day one, our goal has always been to let users
work seamlessly with each other, whether their computers are running Linux or
Windows," said Tom Brubaker, President and CEO of InView Software. "By
supporting both the Linux and Windows operating systems and integrating with
StarOffice, OpenOffice.org, and Microsoft Office, Momentum is an ideal
solution to bridge different users and different computing environments."
