Network Associates Launches Sniffer s6040

Network Associates Inc has announced the Sniffer Technologies s6040 solution -- the industry's first blade-based appliance for performance and fault management at the core of high-speed networks worldwide. With room for up to four blades that support full-duplex gigabit links, the Sniffer Technologies s6040 appliance offers customers worldwide unmatched monitoring performance and superior high-speed capture capabilities with run time aggregation for their networks. The Sniffer Technologies s6040 solution is designed to provide powerful visibility and performance optimization for the most complex network and application architectures that reside at the core of the enterprise, including multi-link trunks, asymmetric routing and load balancing.

The Sniffer Technologies s6040 solution is a key component to the Network Associates Sniffer Network Protection Platform. Designed to safeguard information technology (IT) infrastructures from malicious threats and performance issues, the Sniffer Network Protection Platform consists of cutting-edge network availability and performance management solutions from Sniffer Technologies that are focused on protecting the network, from the core to the edge.

"Our network supports hundreds of applications, most of which are time-sensitive and critical to our business. We rely and depend heavily on the highest levels of network performance and availability, 24x7, for our users to be successful and competitive in today's market," said Greg Welsh, network design manager at T. Rowe Price Group Inc. "With the s6040, Sniffer Technologies has provided a solid network monitoring and troubleshooting solution that enables us to proactively identify, resolve, and ultimately, protect our network from performance issues that could potentially harm our business operations." T. Rowe Price is an investment management firm offering individuals and institutions around the world an exceptional combination of investment management excellence, world-class service and guidance.

The Sniffer Technologies s6040 appliance was developed to sit at the center of the data network to provide the highest level of insight into network traffic in addition to packet-level details that are required to quickly isolate, evaluate, and troubleshoot network security and performance issues. In addition, the Sniffer Technologies s6040 delivers unsurpassed power and speed in network fault and performance management capabilities, giving IT managers open access into hidden areas of the network -- to fully optimize the benefits of a protected network.

"Protecting today's networks from performance and security issues is critical to business operations but increasingly complex," said Elisabeth Rainge, director at IDC. "With the introduction of the s6040 product, Sniffer Technologies is stepping up to this challenge by advancing the capabilities for a high-performance management solution that is specifically developed for these complex network architectures, thereby enabling organizations to better secure the performance and availability of their networks."

Leveraging proven technology from Sniffer Technologies, the s6040 appliance leverages the same software capabilities as the Sniffer Distributed Expert product to monitor, validate, and resolve entire network infrastructure operations -- reducing the mean time to resolution by providing effective instrumentation for the network core where it has never been available before. Key features and capabilities behind the new Sniffer Technologies s6040 product offering include:

  • High Performance Monitoring and Analysis: With one of the industry's fastest monitoring rates, real-time expert analysis, and segment aggregation capabilities, the Sniffer Technologies s6040 offers best-in-class data collection and accurate real-time statistics about performance and traffic patterns on critical Gigabit Ethernet segments. On full-duplex Gigabit networks the Sniffer Technologies s6040 can support up to seventy-five percent network utilization and with traffic bursts to one hundred percent utilization. The new Sniffer Technologies s6040 solution is designed to enable network professionals to effectively baseline network performance for easier and faster problem identification of some of today's most complex network anomalies.
  • Flexible Modular Design: As the industry's first single-box appliance for network monitoring and analysis at the core of the enterprise network, the Sniffer Technologies s6040 solution accommodates up to four independent full-duplex Gigabit media modules for a total capacity of eight Gigabit lengths, allowing for flexible configuration and management, and future expansion with reduced physical space requirements.
  • High Performance Hardware: Facilitates monitoring and troubleshooting at the core of the network by aggregating data from any combination of up to four full duplex or four mirror port links. With the s6040, Sniffer Technologies offers the industries' first high-performance solution to address monitoring and troubleshooting of asymmetric routing and multi-link trunking issues. Compatibility with nPO Solution. Fully compatible with the Network Performance Orchestrator (nPO) solution, the Sniffer Technologies s6040 appliance is managed by the nPO Manager product to ensure data analysis security. Also, the nPO Visualizer product collects data from the Sniffer Technologies s6040 appliance to report capacity planning and trend analysis information in order to better manage and secure the network infrastructure.

"As the leader in network availability and performance, Network Associates continues to set new standards through leading-edge solutions that meet the most intense, complex needs of enterprise organizations," said Ray Smets, president of Sniffer Technologies, a business division of Network Associates. "With the new Sniffer Technologies s6040 appliance, enterprise customers can now effectively protect key IT investments at the core of their large networks through superior, high-performance network monitoring and analysis offered through one integrated box. At the end of the day, the s6040 allows organizations to focus more time on the growth and profitability of their business."
