Cisco To Take Next Step In Ethernet Speeds
Cisco hopes to take the next step in Ethernet speeds and it's likely to be
40Gbps. Cisco thinks that 40Gbps will be a possibility in just two years time.
10Gbps is already being tested and even used in some of the more technically
demanding labs. There is even a 10 Gigabit Ethernet Alliance which was founded
by people like Cisco, 3Com, Intel, Nortel and Sun.
According to Cisco, the traditional 10x step, which would take the current
10Gbps Ethernet up to 100Gbps, is simply not feasible at the moment. It
remains to be seen whether other manufacturers agree.
