THOUGHTWORKS, MS DEVELOP ARCHITECTURAL PATTERNS FOR .NET
ThoughtWorks, Inc.'s contributions in the development of architectural
patterns for Microsoft Corp.'s .NET Framework have been published in a new
book entitled, "Enterprise Solution Patterns Using Microsoft .NET."
ThoughtWorks, a leading application development and system integration firm,
is working with Microsoft as part of a collaborative effort on .NET, which is
used to build and run the next generation of applications and XML Web
services.
The book, published by Microsoft, offers recommendations on the use of
patterns to architects, software developers, and IT professionals who are
responsible for delivering and managing enterprise systems on the .NET
platform. Patterns are an effective way to convey architecture, design and
implementation guidance for .NET in a language that is already familiar to
many enterprise IT professionals. The just-released book was co-authored by
ThoughtWorks' Gregor Hohpe and James Newkirk and representatives from
Microsoft and IT services firm, SBI and Company.
Microsoft and ThoughtWorks began working on patterns for .NET in 2002. The
software company chose ThoughtWorks as a .NET partner based on ThoughtWorks'
proven expertise in patterns and continued success in the delivery of complex,
highly transactional, enterprise projects using Web services technologies.
"ThoughtWorks is recognized as a thought leader in the areas of patterns and
enterprise-class business solution development: expertise that made them a
natural for this initiative," said David Trowbridge, Microsoft Solutions
Architect, patterns & practices. Trowbridge is also one of the book's
contributing authors. "There's no question that leading firms like
ThoughtWorks play an important role for us as we continue to establish .NET as
a platform that enables a high level of enterprise integration via Web
services."
ThoughtWorks CEO and President Roy Singham said ThoughtWorks is delighted to
collaborate with Microsoft on its next generation technologies.
"It's an honor to work with the world's leading software company on the
development of advanced technologies that hold as much potential as .NET,"
Singham said. "We're also very proud to be included in this published body of
work, especially since it's designed to help developers and architects perform
at a higher level on projects involving Web services. All in all, we're very
excited about our continued work with Microsoft in the area of architectural
patterns."
Authors of "Enterprise Solution Patterns Using Microsoft .NET" include
Trowbridge, Microsoft Prescriptive Architecture Guidance; Dave Mancini and
Dave Quick, Microsoft Core Infrastructure Solutions; Hohpe and Newkirk,
ThoughtWorks; and David Lavigne, SBI. Contributors also include Xiao Guo of
ThoughtWorks. Martin Fowler, ThoughtWorks Chief Scientist and a leading
authority on advanced software development practices, serves as advisor on
.NET patterns initiative. The book can be found online at
