Mobile Systems Verification
Receives NIST Funding
Mobile Systems Verification Corporation (MSV) will develop next-generation
automated testing technology funded with a $1.9M grant from the National
Institute of Standards and Technology's Advanced Technology Program (ATP).
Chicago-based MSV will use the grant to develop the Advanced Mobile
Application Testing Environment, a prototype for an end-to-end automated
testing system to improve mobile information technology reliability. The
system will simulate millions of mobile users, their movements, airlink
variation, and network operations under extreme conditions without disrupting
an active network or its customers.
"We're honored that ATP has stepped up to fund development of our vision
for
truly effective software testing. This technology will be critical for
reducing the $56 billion annual cost that buggy software and inadequate
software testing technology imposes on our society," said Robert V. Binder,
MSV founder and President. "We will work hard to get this critical technology
in the hands of mobile application developers as soon as possible," Binder
added.
The ATP provides cost-shared funding to industry-led teams which can
include
non-profits and universities to help advance particularly challenging, high-
risk R&D projects that have the potential to spark important, broad-based
economic or social benefits for the United States. The program supports
projects that industry cannot fully fund on its own because of significant
technical risks.
ATP awards are made on the basis of rigorous competitive peer review
considering scientific and technical merit of each proposal. The program
accelerates enabling technology research, but does not support product
development work.
