Solid Announces General Availability Of BoostEngine 4.0

Solid Information Technology Corp., a leading distributed data management provider, announced today the general availability of Solid BoostEngine 4.0, the first highly-available, distributed data manager that delivers intelligence into embedded applications. Solid's distributed data management platform will be featured at the Intel Developer Forum (IDF) in Berlin, April 28-29.

Solid BoostEngine 4.0 supports Carrier-Grade Linux requirements enabling the company to provide standards-based commercial off-the-shelf (COTS) solutions on Intel processor-based platforms for Network Equipment Providers (NEPs) and carriers. Solid and its BoostEngine product have been validated for use with modular communications platforms using both MontaVista Carrier Grade Edition 3.0 and Red Hat Linux Advanced Server. A modular communications platform integrates standards-based hardware, software, and middleware to enable a rapid transition from closed, proprietary systems to a more open solution enabling vendor choice and improving time to market for customers.

With Solid BoostEngine, developers reduce the costs of managing data in smart devices, optimize application performance, increase speed where needed and exploit low-cost disks when possible. Solid is used as a carrier-grade embedded data manager in core and edge switches and routers, in Element Management Systems, and in server-based applications running on blade servers, such as media gateways, mediation servers, and NGSN/SGSN. Solid is also used to reliably distribute data between nodes in a complex system, such as moving FCAPS data between elements and their managers.

Solid BoostEngine provides customers with reduced time to market and a lower cost of ownership by taking care of local and distributed data management, enabling them to build their applications faster and with less effort, deploy them more easily, and maintain them at lower cost. With Solid managing the data, developers can focus on delivering core value to their customers. Developers can rely on Solid's hot standby technology to leverage hardware redundancy into continuous application availability.

"Network Equipment Providers and carriers need to reduce costs while at the same time providing quality services," said Anthony Ambrose, general manager, Modular Platform Programs, Intel Corporation. "The availability of Solid BoostEngine on Intel-based, platforms is another step forward in enabling the transition from proprietary architectures to a more cost-effective, modular approach."

"Solid is excited to announce the general availability of BoostEngine 4.0," said Jussi Harvela, president and CEO, Solid. "As vendors and carriers build applications for the network infrastructure, they realize the need for a robust underlying data management platform that can support them with five- nines availability. Utilizing the high-performance, highly available Solid BoostEngine 4.0 platform speeds time to market and reduces the total cost of ownership of carrier-grade applications."

About Solid BoostEngine 4.0

Designed so that it can be easily embedded in unattended devices and applications, Solid BoostEngine 4.0 is a carrier-class distributed data management platform that can be concealed inside an application, delivering a compelling low total cost of ownership (TCO). The Solid products, which feature hot standby and synchronization, are made up of two tightly coupled components: an embeddable, lightweight database management system and a patented database synchronization technology. Solid assures continuous data accessibility by providing a redundant copy of any database in a Solid distributed application while Solid's HA solution provides the features needed by today's highly available applications such as load balancing, distributed availability and efficient failover.

Availability of Solid BoostEngine 4.0

Solid will sell BoostEngine 4.0, originally code-named, AdaptableEngine, through its direct sales force and through distributors in Asia. Solid BoostEngine 4.0 will be generally available by April 28, 2003 and will supplement the Solid FlowEngine product, which will continue to be available.
