Foundry Networks Accelerates 10-Gigabit Ethernet Adoption

Foundry Networks, Inc., a performance and total solutions leader for end-to- end switching and routing, announced breakthrough pricing for its complete line of 10-Gigabit Ethernet (10GbE) products including existing FastIron Enterprise switches, BigIron backbone switches and NetIron Metro routers. Foundry offers the industry's broadest portfolio of 10GbE products and the new pricing significantly increases 10GbE affordability and helps accelerate the market adoption of the technology in enterprise, metro provider and Internet service provider networks.

New 10 GbE US List Prices for current FastIron 400/800/1500 systems, BigIron 4000/8000/15000 systems, and NetIron 400/800/1500 systems:

  • $14,995 for 1-port 10GbE (LR optics included)
  • $19,995 for 1-port 10GbE (XENPAK; optic not included)
  • $29,995 for 2-port 10GbE module (XENPAK; optic not included)

The new pricing delivers 10GbE performance at less than $15,000 a port (US list price), including optics, in Foundry's existing line of modular LAN switches and Metro routers, making high performance end-to-end 10GbE solutions affordable. Foundry Networks is the 10GbE market leader with more than 70 percent market share worldwide, according to a February 2003 market study by industry research firm the Dell'Oro Group. More than 150 enterprise, metro provider and Internet service provider customers worldwide have deployed Foundry's 10GbE solution in their high performance networks, including the London Internet Exchange (LINX), Canada's University Health Network, Walter Reed Army Hospital and University of Southern California.

"As a market leader in high performance networking and a technology innovator which brought the first 10GbE product to market 18 months ago, Foundry continues to lead in making 10-Gigabit Ethernet affordable," said Bobby Johnson, president and CEO of Foundry Networks. "We led the migration of Gigabit Ethernet to the mainstream market and we are now delivering affordable, best-in-class 10GbE solutions to accelerate wide adoption of this technology," added Johnson.
