- Distributed Management Task Force, Inc., (DMTF) and the Global Grid Forum
(GGF) announced that they have entered into an alliance partnership to
establish a unified approach to the provisioning, sharing and management of
grid computing resources and technologies.

GRID SCHOOL TO BE HELD IN ITALY IN JULY
- GGF is pleased to announce its sponsorship of the 2003 International
School on Grid Computing. The school -- to be held in Vico Equense, Italy

IBM RACES TO FORM NEW GRID ECOSYSTEM
- IBM has announced new offerings to further expand Grid computing into
commercial enterprises, including the introduction of new solutions for four
industries -- petroleum, electronics, higher education and agricultural
chemicals. In addition IBM announced that more than 35 companies, including
networking giant Cisco Systems, will join IBM to form the foundation of a
Grid ecosystem that is designed to foster Grid computing for businesses.

- Computer Associates International, Inc. (CA) Chairman and CEO, Sanjay
Kumar, unveiled the Company's innovative managing on-demand computing

MS WINDOWS SERVER 2003 RELEASE FACES DIFFICULT ROAD
- Analysts don't consider Windows Server 2003 a major upgrade, but its
launch is strategically important for Microsoft as the software giant seeks
to stave off open-source competitors and gain adherents for its
Internet-centric plans.

KEY VOTES TO TAKE PLACE AT OMG TECHNICAL MEETING IN PARIS
- Members of the Object Management Group (OMG) will meet in Paris, France
the week of June 2 through 6, 2003. At the meeting, OMG's Analysis and
Design Platform Task Force will vote to recommend an upgrade of the
MetaObject Facility (MOF) core and XMI mapping specifications to Version
2.0, and will evaluate draft specifications for a MOF 2.0 Facility and
Object Lifecycle service.

IBM'S NEW DEEP COMPUTING INITIATIVE TAKES NEW APPROACHES
- IBM recently announced the creation of its Deep Computing initiative.
Building upon IBM's supercomputing leadership IBM plans to leverage
supercomputers, specialized software, and deep industry knowledge to help
solve customers' complex business problems.

INTEL, HP AND MICROSOFT ACHIEVE TOP TPC-C BENCHMARK
- Intel Corporation President and COO Paul Otellini described how Intel-
based servers combined with Microsoft's new operating system and database
deliver industry-leading capabilities and performance.

PLATFORM SW/SERVICES SUPPORT GRID-ENABLED VALUATION APP
- Platform and IBM have announced a new Grid computing customer, RBC
Insurance. Using an integrated grid computing solution from Platform and
IBM, RBC Insurance was able to reduce by 75 percent the time spent on job
scheduling, and by 97 percent the time spent processing an actuarial
application.

NSF FINE-TUNES THE GRID
- The National Science Foundation Middleware Initiative (NMI) issued its
third release of software tools carefully chosen for their value and ability
to interoperate as part of the emerging NSF cyberinfrastructure for 21st
century science and engineering.
