European & US HPC Users Will
Dialogue In May
The HPC User Forum, consisting of high performance computing users from
government, industry and academia, will hold its first dialogue meetings
between European and U.S. users on Tuesday, May 20, 2003 in Bristol, UK and on
Thursday, May 22, 2003, in Annecy, France.
Founded three years ago to address issues of common concern to users, the
HPC
User Forum has grown to 130 members worldwide and earlier this month held its
semi-annual meeting in Sundance, Utah with a record 96 attendees.
"We invite all European HPC users, buyers and interested parties to attend
these meetings free of charge," said IDC's Earl Joseph II, who serves as
executive director of the HPC User Forum.
"High performance computing is a global industry with a global community,
but
the market dynamics can vary substantially from country to country and region
to region. To advance the HPC industry and to influence the direction vendors
take, it's important that European and U.S. users understand each other's
perspectives. That's the primary goal of this initial meeting."
Joseph said the U.S. contingent traveling to Bristol and Annecy will
include
HPC leaders from Boeing, the Pittsburgh Supercomputing Center, and the Army
High Performance Computing Research Center, along with IDC officials.
The HPC User Forum is directed by a steering committee consisting of
users/buyers from government, industry and academia, and is operated for the
users by market analyst firm IDC, in partnership with HPCwire.
European users may register for either meeting by contacting Mary Rolph, maryrolph@aol.com.
