GRID WARS' VICTORS EMERGE: Engineered Intelligence Corporation (EI) announced the winners of its "GRID WARS" Spring 2003 parallel programming challenge in which competing programs written in CxC ("C by C") fought for survival of the fittest in a Grid of processors.
WILL GRID SOMEDAY TAKE ON GOOGLE?: A new computing project, which harnesses individual users' spare computing power and internet bandwidth, could provide enough raw data to keep a comprehensive search engine up-to-date.
UNICORE NOW THE MIDDLEWARE OF THE JAPANESE GRID-INITIATIVE by Uwe Harms, Harms Supercomputing Consulting: Dr. Makoto Furunishi of MEXT, the Japanese Ministry of Education, Culture, Sports, Science and Technology, announced during the Global Grid Forum in Tokyo that UNICORE will become the Grid middleware for the new National Research Grid Initiative.

KONTIKI ENHANCES ITS GRID DELIVERY TECHNOLOGY: Kontiki announced enhancements to its industry-leading Grid Delivery Technology that save companies over 90% in the cost of distributing video and other digital media over their existing corporate networks and the Internet.

NCSA CELEBRATES MOSAIC BIRTHDAY WITH EXCITING SYMPOSIUM: On April 29, the center that helped bring the Web into so many lives will host a symposium that will reflect on the impact of Mosaic and look ahead to the technology breakthroughs that will change our lives in the next decade.
SGI GAINS MOMENTUM FOR VISUAL AREA NETWORKING: SGI announced recently that since it launched Visual Area Networking (VAN) last year, the number of customers has grown to more than 110 installations in research and industry. These customers are using VAN to accelerate their work processes by giving end users far greater visualization capabilities and multi-site collaboration. SGI also announced a more capable, lower-cost VAN solution that will be attractive to smaller organizations.
NEW SGI SYSTEM ALLOWS EXTENSION OF COSMOLOGY GRID: SGI has announced a contract to provide an SGI Altix 3000 supercluster to the U.K. COSMOS consortium led by Professor Stephen Hawking of the University of Cambridge as part of a long-term agreement between the two organizations.
