NetWorld+Interop Announces 2003
Technology Initiatives
NetWorld+Interop announced its 2003 InteropNet Labs (iLabs) program
initiatives, which include Wireless LAN Security, IP Storage and Advanced
Internetworking. Slated as an actual live test for innovative networking
technology, the iLabs will be showcased at NetWorld+Interop Las Vegas 2003,
taking place April 27-May 2, 2003, at the Las Vegas Convention Center. "The
iLabs is the ideal place for networking professionals to find unbiased insight
into the true state of emerging networking technologies," said Steve Wylie,
director of network operations for NetWorld+Interop. "Our mission is to serve
as a catalyst for the networking industry, shortening the learning curve,
validating interoperability of new technologies and educating network
professionals."
The iLabs is a multi-vendor, standards-based test and implementation lab
for
emerging networking technologies. It is built in collaboration with a cross-
section of the networking industry -- from research organizations and product
developers, to networking vendors and implementers from the ISP/Carrier and
Enterprise areas. This year's technology initiatives include:
- IP Storage - The 2003 IP Storage Initiative will explore iSCSI
implementation issues and usage. The iLabs Engineers will demonstrate iSCSI's
role in Storage over IP, and how to use the TCP/IP corporate enterprise
backbone or WAN to enable remote data replication and disaster-recovery
mechanisms. They will demonstrate the true state of IP Storage solutions here
now, by displaying multi-vendor IP Storage product interoperability and
robustness. Led by Allen Gwinn of SMU Cox School of Business, iLabs IP Storage
participants include: Alacritech; Ancot Corporation; Cisco Systems, Inc.;
Finisar Corporation; HCL Technologies; Intel Corporation; NetScaler; Network
Appliance, Inc.; QLogic Corp.; SANRAD, Inc.; and Spectra Logic.
- Wireless LAN Security - The 2003 Wireless LAN Security Initiative will
show how security issues surrounding authentication, access control and data
integrity can be overcome. The iLabs Engineers will explore how emerging
standards, such as 802.1X, 802.11i/TKIP, Extensible Authentication Protocol
(EAP) and IPSec, can be used to build interoperable and secure, wireless
networks. Based on extensive testing at the iLabs 802.1X Ad-hoc
Interoperability Test Event performed in early April in Belmont, California,
the iLabs team will highlight 802.1X and 802.11i/TKIP wireless security
solutions over 802.11 networks in a series of demonstrations.
Led by Karen O'Donoghue of Naval Surface Warfare Center, iLabs Wireless LAN
Security Initiative participants include: 3Com Corporation; AirMagnet, Inc.;
Alcatel; Aruba Wireless Networks; Broadcom Corporation; Cisco Systems, Inc.;
Enterasys Networks, Inc.; Extreme Networks; Funk Software; Hewlett- Packard
Company; Interlink Networks; Microsoft Corporation; Meetinghouse Data
Communications; Nortel Networks; Perfigo, Inc.; Proxim, Inc.; Secure Computing
Corporation; Symbol Technologies; Trapeze Networks; WildPackets, Inc.; and
Wind River Systems, Inc.
- Advanced Internetworking - The iLabs Advanced Internetworking group will
build on their past experiences exploring Multi Protocol Label Switching
(MPLS). The iLabs team, with collaboration from Isocore's Internetworking Lab
team, will show that MPLS is stable, workable and can be used in building
flexible and resilient next-generation corporate internetworking, which helps
to ensure delivery of corporate IP services. In addition to MPLS, the iLabs
team will focus on implementing and testing differing deployment options and
"tools" that guarantee delivery of an enterprise's multiple applications
demands over metro networks. They will also show how Quality of Service (QoS)
mechanisms within the enterprise can be combined with these technologies to
provide definable end-to-end service. Led by Bill Jensen of the University of
Wisconsin - Madison DOIT, Advanced Internetworking participants include:
Acterna, LLC.; Agilent Technologies, Inc.; Avici Systems, Inc.; Cisco Systems,
Inc.; Circadiant Systems, Inc.; Extreme Networks; Foundry Networks, Inc.; IP
Infusion, Inc.; Isocore Internetworking Lab; Net Optics, Inc.; Redback
Networks; Riverstone Networks; and Spirent Communications.
The iLabs program will also provide the NetWorld+Interop community with an
opportunity to experience innovation first-hand through specialized programs,
including:
iLabs Booth: Once onsite at NetWorld+Interop Las Vegas 2003, come and pick
the
brains of expert engineers who are developing, implementing and testing this
year's technology initiatives. Learn how these technologies impact the future
of networking and how to implement these advanced technologies. For more
information, please visit www.interop.com/ilabs.
iLabs Classes: During NetWorld+Interop Las Vegas 2003, free iLabs classes
provide networking professionals with insightful, unbiased, practical
education on the current state of these technology initiatives. Classes are
taught by iLabs engineers, based on real-life experiences and the latest
developments in the iLabs. For more information or to register, visit
