SwXtch Receives Patent On Layer
One Packet Switching
SwXtch, Inc. has been awarded a U.S. Patent Notice of Allowance for its
pioneering invention of "Layer 1 Packet Switching."
"This invention is a significant breakthrough because it finally solves the
'Real-Time Internet Problem,' which has plagued the `Net for years," said
Wayne Howe, President and Founder of SwXtch. "It guarantees full-motion full-
screen TV-quality video, voice, gaming, etc. in real-time over IP
networks."
"This capability was impossible before now, because today's IP [Internet
Protocol] networks can congest, delay, and even throw away packets. Layer 1
Packet Switching totally eliminates this congestion, delay, and loss by using
time reservations for the real-time packets. This guarantees that the real-
time packets cut through the network in the fastest possible time.
Real-time Layer 1 packets can cut through totally congested networks, data
storms, Distributed Denial of Service (DDoS) hacker attacks, etc.," said
Howe.
Non-real-time Layer 2 and Layer 3 packets (like e-mail) are stuffed in
between
the time scheduled real-time packets. So the entire system is extremely
efficient, reliable, scalable, and cost-effective. It achieves up to 10X
improvement in throughput and bandwidth utilization, while network efficiency
can increase to an astounding 80 to 90%! "It's an inflection point
technology," said Howe. "It greatly reduces network over-engineering, so it
can reduce costs of routers, switches, and even line bandwidth! "SwXtch
technology enables simple start-stop time-billing for premium services, while
today's IP networks must examine and record every single packet header for
billing purposes. The technology can increase security with real-time
guarantees on totally encrypted packets, including encrypted headers! It also
can enable pure-optical (O-O-O) packet switching for real- time packets based
on time scheduling! This reduces optical-to-electrical (O- E-O) conversion
costs. The benefits are phenomenal. They are unheard of in today's Layer 2/3
IP networks!" added Howe.
Layer 1 Packet Switching works in all data networks - WANs, MANs, LANs,
DSL,
cable modems, wireless, Storage Area Networks (SANs), real-time simulations,
chipset packet communications, multiprocessor intercommunications, and even
grid computing. It's also compatible with today's IP.
"Today's broadband equipment and services will become low-margin
commodities,"
said Howe. "Layer 1 Packet Switching offers aggressive equipment and service
providers the next big wave of high-profit, improved IP products and services.
This portends to be the `next big thing' - the beginning of Internet 3!"
"We are interested in discussing licensing opportunities with aggressive
partners, and have begun some initial discussions," said Howe. "Feel free to
call me."
