Systems/Enterprise:
NEC AND OVERTURE NETWORKS ANNOUNCE
RESELLER AGREEMENT
Overture Networks, Inc., a developer of telecommunications solutions that
enable carriers to deliver Ethernet and traditional voice/data services over
metro networks, announced that it has signed a multi-year worldwide reseller
agreement with NEC Corporation, a leading supplier of telecommunications
equipment to carriers.
Headquartered in Tokyo, Japan, with sales offices worldwide, NEC will
represent, sell and support Overture Networks' ISG 5000, a unique metro edge
platform that enables carriers to deliver Ethernet and traditional voice, data
and video services over metro networks, both today and as the network evolves.
With the ISG 5000, NEC will provide telecommunications carriers, 2.5/3G
wireless operators, cable multi-system operators (MSO) and large enterprises a
way to transition towards a data-optimized network while extending their
investment in current TDM networks.
"Although Ethernet traffic is growing rapidly in Asia, including Japan, we
have identified that the demand for traditional TDM services will exist for
years to come. The carriers also rely heavily on TDM services as a significant
revenue stream," said Mas Iwama, Systems Development Division, NEC Corporation
in Tokyo, Japan. "With the Overture Networks ISG 5000, carrier customers can
now enjoy significant cost savings by aggregating Ethernet and traditional TDM
voice, data, and video circuits together and transporting them over lower cost
metro Ethernet services. Additionally, we have also seen significant interest
with wireless operators for transporting 2.5G/3G TDM base station traffic over
lower cost Ethernet networks."
"The Asian region represents one of the largest potential markets for
Overture's multi-service metro aggregation solutions," said Jeff Reedy,
president and CEO of Overture Networks. "Partnering with NEC and benefiting
from its breadth and depth of complementary products, relationships with
carriers, industry reputation and vast sales channels is a tremendous
opportunity for us. NEC's selection of the ISG 5000 as their metro aggregation
solution proves we've built the right solution to address the complex needs of
today's carriers."
