MSC.SOFTWARE RELEASES SIMULATION
DATA MANAGEMENT FOR GRIDS
MSC.Software Corp., a leading global provider of virtual product
development
tools including simulation software, services and systems, announced the
availability of MSC.SDM (Simulation Data Management) Framework 2003. The new
software offering, a core component of the MSC.SDM solution suite, gives
manufacturers the ability to consistently manage all of their simulated
product performance data and the simulation models that create the data,
automate their engineering processes and capture best-practice methods.
MSC.Software customers will benefit by ensuring consistency and
repeatability
in their virtual product development (VPD) process, better preserving their
intellectual property and ultimately reducing the time and cost of product
development. MSC.SDM will be offered globally to major automotive and aero
customers, and is MSC.Software's link to the multi billion-dollar market
associated with product lifecycle management (PLM).
"For decades, software companies have given customers tools to help them
generate product-performance and simulation data. One of the biggest
challenges in PLM is to manage and take advantage of performance information,
to enable better and faster product development. MSC.Software has leveraged
our experience in management of crash, materials and other data to provide a
comprehensive framework to help companies manage their simulation data and
streamline their VPD process," said Frank Perna, chairman and chief executive
officer of MSC.Software. "Manufacturers around the world have their CAD, CAE
and other product development data spread among numerous databases in their
globally distributed development sites, which doesn't facilitate collaboration
and access by engineers enterprise-wide. MSC.SDM Framework complements product
data management (PDM) and PLM by giving engineers a way to manage their most
important product-performance data within a single, easily-accessible
portal."
Product development relies on a combination of computer simulation (or
"virtual prototyping") and physical testing to ultimately ensure performance
and bring a product to market. Manufacturers around the world are increasing
their use of virtual prototyping and reducing their dependence on physical
prototyping in order to reduce development costs and get products to market
faster. The increased reliance on VPD techniques necessitates a mechanism for
managing the ever-increasing amount of performance-related product data that
exist in a digital format, and for managing the processes that generate and
make use of these data.
MSC.SDM interoperates with MSC.Software's simulation products as well as
the
other commercially supplied or in-house tools in customers' VPD environments.
The MSC.SDM Framework is the foundation deployed by MSC.Software's
Professional Services teams to create a web-based Enterprise Simulation
Portal, giving companies enterprise-wide access to model and simulation data.
This allows engineers to track computer models and VPD testing data, evaluate
design changes and generate comparative reports of design changes and virtual
tests. The MSC.Software Professional Services team works directly with
customers to integrate the MSC.SDM Framework with legacy enterprise systems
such as product data management (PDM) systems, and to configure the Enterprise
Simulation Portal to the customer's specific processes and IT
infrastructure.
The use of state-of-the-art software techniques to encapsulate
MSC.Software's
data management expertise within the MSC.SDM Framework makes this deployment
process quick and cost-effective. MSC.Software also provides customers with
enterprise systems from the world's leading vendors such as IBM, HP and Sun to
ensure the computing infrastructure can handle the enormous amount of
simulation data generated during the VPD process.
