SAIC Wins Global Information Grid
Contract
Science Applications International Corporation (SAIC) announced a contract
award from the Office of the Joint Chiefs of Staff to support the Command,
Control, Communications and Computer (C4) Systems Directorate (J6) for the
Global Information Grid (GIG) Analysis, Assessment, Study, Planning, Software
Development, and Engineering Services.
The five-year cost-plus-fixed-fee contract, with an estimated value of more
than $50 million, will expand on existing work SAIC is conducting with J6 to
support C4I (Intelligence) For The Warrior (C4IFTW).
Under the terms of the contract, the SAIC team will provide technical
support
in the areas of network-centric warfare, knowledge management, network
operations, broadband and wireless communications, critical infrastructure
protection, and the application of commercial technologies (e.g., voice over
IP, optical switching) to military applications. The work will be performed at
the Pentagon and, as required, at combatant command sites, and will support
the new missions at Strategic Command (STRATCOM) and the newly-created U.S.
Northern Command (NORTHCOM).
The GIG is the globally interconnected, end-to-end set of information
capabilities, associated processes and personnel for collecting, processing,
storing, disseminating, and managing information on demand to warfighters,
policy makers, and support personnel. The GIG supports all Department of
Defense (DoD), national security, and related intelligence community missions
and functions (strategic, operational, tactical and business) in war and in
peace.
"The SAIC team offers outstanding domain knowledge of evolving C4I systems
and
their associated missions, as well as in-depth technical expertise in
telecommunications and sensors," said Gerald Anderson, SAIC senior vice
president and manager of the SAIC Information Technology Solutions Group. "We
look forward to continuing our support and helping our customer fulfill their
goals to protect our nation."
The SAIC team includes subsidiary Telcordia Technologies and subcontractors
Titan Systems based in San Diego, Calif.; Global Broadband Solutions based in
Leesburg, Va.; Electronic Data Systems based in Plano, Texas; and OPNET
Technologies, based in Bethesda, Md.
SAIC is the nation's largest employee-owned research and engineering
company,
providing information technology, systems integration and eSolutions to
commercial and government customers. SAIC engineers and scientists work to
solve complex technical problems in national and homeland security, energy,
the environment, space, telecommunications, health care, transportation and
logistics. With annual revenues of $6.1 billion, SAIC and its subsidiaries,
including Telcordia Technologies, have more than 41,000 employees at offices
in more than 150 cities worldwide.
