Systems/Enterprise:
FSC SEES NO COMMERCIAL OPPORTUNITY
FOR GRID COMPUTING
Fujitsu Siemens Computers doesn't see any commercial opportunity for
getting
into grid computing at this time. While grid structures for scientific uses
make sense, a host of technology needs to be layered on top of underlying
resource allocation mechanisms for commercial systems, the company says.
Meanwhile, FSC's autonomic development efforts have been rolled up into a
formal technology program that will touch each of its product lines. It's also
working on integration with Computer Associates. The company is still
interested in licensing Sun's N1 but sees Orion as just a repackaging, and is
looking at an alternative route to achieve the same goal with its own
SystemWalker management environment.
