Scientific Applications:

AVAKI GRID SOFTWARE TO IMPROVE RESEARCH SITES FOR AVENTIS

Avaki Corporation, a leader in commercial grid software solutions, announced that global pharmaceutical company Aventis has chosen Avaki Data Grid software to provide automated, secure, wide-area access to bioinformatics research data across multiple North American research sites. Avaki Data Grid automates the sharing of business-critical data resources, enabling users to significantly speed the performance of applications.

Avaki software will enable users to share important research data without the need to manually compress and copy data files by making data available to multiple sites and administrative domains from its source location. This approach can help to eliminate data inconsistency and synchronization challenges associated with multiple copies, and to prevent unnecessary consumption of disk space and productivity delays.

With Avaki Data Grid, companies can now securely share data seamlessly among geographically dispersed users and applications, with automated access to wide-area data that appears local to those who have been granted access to it. Avaki Data Grid ensures the consistency of data across the organization, ensures access to the most current data available, and provides a uniform environment that is easy for researchers to use and for IT professionals to administer.

"Life sciences organizations demand the ability to quickly and easily access huge amounts of data, regardless of where it resides, and securely share it in a timely and consistent fashion across their R&D teams," said Tim Yeaton, President of Avaki. "The Avaki Data Grid solution has been particularly appealing to life sciences organizations because of its unique ability to address the data-intensive work that drives the business processes of these organizations. We are extremely pleased to make this solution available to Aventis."

Avaki Data Grid 3.0, released last month, creates a federated data service, which enables the secure sharing of data among wide-area, multi-organizational users and applications. With Avaki Data Grid, companies eliminate costly organizational and technical barriers to data sharing, while creating a flexible, J2EE-based access infrastructure that installs quickly and easily and scales to meet business requirements.
