CLEAR & SORRENTO OFFER GRID NETWORK MANAGEMENT SOLUTION

Clear, a global supplier of optical, broadband and digital network management software, and Sorrento Networks, a leading supplier of intelligent optical networking solutions for metro and regional applications, announced their global partnership to deliver service providers a reliable, proactive optical network operations management solution by addressing the unique challenges facing network operations centers (NOCs).

Through this partnership, Clear's Clearview network management system is pre-certified for interoperability with Sorrento's TeraManager, a robust carrier-class element management system providing fault, configuration, performance and security (FCPS) capabilities for Sorrento's GigaMux DWDM platform.

By integrating with service providers' inventory systems, the Clearview and TeraManager combined solution provides the following advantages for GigaMux customers:

  • Customer network management -- allowing service providers' customers to manage their network through a web-based application
  • Service level management -- enabling service providers to understand and prove QoS level to meet service level agreements (SLA)
  • Performance management -- reviewing network performance for service providers and providing error details over periods of time
  • Circuit level customer correlation -- helping service providers quickly understand how faults affect their customers, allowing them to deliver higher quality of service (QoS)
  • Fault visualization -- allowing service providers to visually track the network at both the circuit and topology levels, increasing NOC efficiency and lowering mean time to repair (MTTR)
  • Fault (network) sectionalization - providing service providers the ability to view every segment between circuits.

These additional management capabilities present service providers an opportunity to significantly reduce operational expenses and increase efficiencies while improving customer retention.

"The days when service providers are relegated to managing their multi- vendor, multi-technology networks as a series of independent closed proprietary networks, each with its own element management system, are coming to an end," said Tom Richards, CEO of Clear.

"The Clear -- Sorrento certified NMS-EMS solution allows end-to-end circuit visibility as well as historical paths and performance tracking, ultimately reducing the need for higher technician skill sets, while reducing MTTR. This capability is precisely what carriers have been telling us they need."

The joint solution is fully tested and certified, thereby maximizing customer confidence and satisfaction before deployment.

"The Sorrento -- Clear partnership addresses the customer requirements for end-to-end network performance visibility and service level agreements," said Demetri Elias, Sorrento's vice president of marketing. "The certified combination of Clear's Clearview, a vendor independent network management system, and TeraManager, a carrier-class element management system, is a winning network management combination."

Sorrento Networks' GigaMux is a metro and regional dense wavelength division multiplexing (DWDM) platform that transforms any fiber plant into a high-performance, multi-protocol transmission network with up to 64 times the transmission capacity. GigaMux is a compact, flexible and cost-effective system based on a "pay-as-you-grow" architecture. Working in conjunction with GigaMux is the EPC product family of sub-rate aggregation multiplexers that increase bandwidth utilization by combining a wide variety of traffic for transmission over a single wavelength, including ESCON, Fibre Channel, Fast Ethernet, Gigabit Ethernet and SONET/SDH channels.
