Scientific Applications:

InfiniHost HCA PROVIDES InfiniBand GRID CLUSTERING

Mellanox Technologies Ltd, a leading supplier of InfiniBand silicon, announced its support of Intel Itanium 2 processor-based platforms. The InfiniBand architecture provides an industry-standard technology for "scaling out" compute platforms and is an ideal interconnect for developing high- performance Itanium 2 processor-based compute grid clusters.

Industry leading Mellanox InfiniHost MT23108 HCA and Intel Itanium 2 processor are designed from the ground up to address the scalability, availability and performance challenges presented by database and other compute intensive applications.

InfiniHost software support for the 64-bit Itanium 2 processor is now available within the standard SDK. The InfiniHost HCA features dual 4X InfiniBand ports with hardware transport delivering up to 20 Gb/sec of total I/O bandwidth, per port, to fuel the raw computational capabilities of the Itanium 2 processor. The HCA is designed to complement Itanium 2 systems and take advantage of the impressive processor and memory bandwidth, I/O throughput, and memory addressability offered by the Intel E8870 chipset.

"Providing full compatibility across Intel's product line is a key goal for us and we have achieved another milestone with the completion of our Itanium processor port," said Michael Kagan, vice president of architecture and software for Mellanox. "Mellanox is committed to ensuring the broadest support with its InfiniBand host channel adapters for leading computing architectures such as the Intel Itanium 2 processor."

"InfiniBand architecture, with its low latency and high bandwidth, is a key interconnect technology for the scale out of Intel-architecture server platforms," said Hemant Dhulla, Director of Advanced Components Marketing, Intel Corporation. "The combination of Mellanox InfiniHost HCA devices and the Itanium 2 processor and E8870 chipset-based platform provides a high- performance solution for clustered, high-end computing."

About InfiniBand Architecture

InfiniBand Architecture is the only 10 Gb/sec ultra low latency clustering, communication and storage interconnect in the market today. InfiniBand, based on an industry standard, provides the most robust data center interconnect solution available with reliability, availability, serviceability and manageability features designed from the ground up. These parameters greatly reduce total cost of ownership for the data center.

Low cost InfiniBand silicon that supports 10 Gb/sec RDMA transfers is shipping today providing eight times the bandwidth of Ethernet and three times the bandwidth of proprietary clustering interconnects. With an approved specification for 30 Gb/sec, InfiniBand is at least a generation ahead of competing fabric technologies today and in the foreseeable future.
