Fujitsu And Intel To develop Grid Enterprise Servers

Fujitsu Ltd has partnered with Intel Corp to jointly develop mission-critical enterprise servers.

These Fujitsu systems will utilize Intel processors and run Linux and Windows operating systems.

They are designed to complement Fujitsu's Unix-and mainframe-based mission-critical grid enterprise platform offerings. Fujitsu plans to make Intel Xeon processor DP and MP systems available by end of 2004, followed by large systems based on future versions of the Intel Itanium processor family by the end of 2005.

These systems will scale up to 128 processor-capable mainframe-class systems.

To support the collaborative effort, Fujitsu has created a new Linux systems organizational structure under its Enterprise Systems Group.

This organization will comprise more than 300 engineers and capitalize on Fujitsu's mission-critical systems expertise, including interconnect, grid clustering, autonomous systems, and grid computing technologies.
