Scientific Applications:

jaalaM AND INTERNET2 WORK TOGETHER IN GRID TESTS

jaalaM Technologies, a leader in network intelligence software, announced appareNet Network for Academics (aNA), a cooperative network test environment available to North American academic institutions. The aNA program provides academic institutions and research organizations with access to appareNet network measurement and problem determination software, for use within and between eligible institutions in support of network operations and network- specific research projects.

Further demonstrating its commitment to collaborative technology development, jaalaM is a member of the Internet2 consortium, working to develop and deploy advanced networking grid applications and technologies.

Additionally, Internet2 is a participant in the aNA program and will work with jaalaM and other institutions in the quest to accelerate the creation of the next-generation Internet.

Academic institutions have a strong need for a widely grid distributed, easy to install and deploy, end-to-end network intelligence tool that provides real- time data on the performance and capacity of today's networks. aNA offers many network "test-from" points throughout Internet2 networks, CA(x)net and regional affiliates, all of which are accessible for testing by participating institutions. Additionally, results of all tests are available to aNA members for research purposes.

By joining the aNA program, academic institutions will be able to use appareNet to test University network capabilities, test between other campuses, and in fact, test almost any path to an IP address around the world. By using appareNet to ensure maximum bandwidth capabilities, academic institutions can realize the benefits of high-speed networks that deliver leading edge applications such as video conferencing and VoIP for end uses like education-on-demand courses and multi-location seminars. Finally, all members will be able to access test results accumulated by the aNA community.

"Academic institutions have a critical need for collaborative test environments and easy to use tools that fuel continued advancements of Internet technologies," says Dr. Loki Jorgenson, director of research at jaalaM Technologies. "Because of its incomparable ability to quickly measure the effective nature of network connections, appareNet is uniquely qualified to assist with any number of research projects taking place today.

By bringing academic institutions together in pursuit of advanced technologies, jaalaM's aNA program can play an active role in bringing the next generation Internet and grid technology to the business and consumer communities."

"The appareNet technology provides network engineers with a level of diagnostic detail that was previously difficult to achieve in such short time frames," says Dr. Eric Boyd, Network Performance Engineering Consultant for Internet2 "In fact, because of its easy of use, rapid deployment and insightful results, we used appareNet to monitor performance at the Network Operations Center at the Fall 2002 Internet2 Member Meeting."

Participating academic institutions may subscribe to the aNA network on a monthly basis and may cancel at any time thereafter. aNA may not be used for commercial purposes.

About Internet2

Led by over 200 U.S. universities, working with industry and government, Internet2 is developing and deploying advanced network applications and technologies for research and higher education, accelerating the creation of tomorrow's Internet. Internet2 recreates the partnerships among academia, industry, and government that helped foster today's Internet in its infancy.

About appareNet

appareNet intelligent network test system is a non-invasive, end-to-end network measurement and diagnosis tool that can see and test large global networks from the application's perspective. appareNet allows users to identify many network bottlenecks including, NIC problems, and full/half- duplex conflicts in minutes. It is also used to analyze application service provider and Internet service provider relationships as well as validate service level agreements.

About jaalaM Technologies

jaalaM Technologies is a leading innovator of intelligent network testing software. jaalaM's technology, appareNet, helps companies improve the performance of current network infrastructure and the financial return on network investments. It does this by providing unique end-to-end visibility of the network and locating and identifying problems quickly and simply. The BC Government estimates that appareNet has reduced the time taken to analyze network problems by 75%.

DHL's early use of appareNet yielded a $30,000 per month savings on just one under-performing circuit. Providence Health estimated a first year ROI of 572% on their appareNet purchase. Founded in 2000, jaalaM Technologies is a privately held company, based in Vancouver, British Columbia.
