ENVISIONING THE GRID
By Paul Preuss
- The Grid integrates all sorts of devices, services, and resources, not just computers. Operating inside a specialized world of research, the Grid hopes to do for the tools of science, from computers and data-storage systems to instruments like telescopes, electron microscopes, seismographs, synchrotron beam lines -- even ocean-going floats that report via satellite -- what the World Wide Web did for desktop PCs.
-
MAGMASOFT GRID CLUSTER DELIVERS RESULTS AT 1/2 THE PRICE
- Linux Networx, a Linux Grid Cluster Supercomputer provider and MAGMA, a producer of flow simulation software, joined efforts to produce the Evolocity MAGMASOFT Grid Cluster that reduced Nemak's casting simulation time from 10.1 days, to just 8.5 hours -- a 29-fold improvement in speed.
-
SUN POWERS THE BLUEPRINT INITIATIVE WITH GRID CLUSTERS
- The Blueprint Initiative has acquired more than $5 million in Sun hardware, software and storage to support BIND and related bionformatics tools.
