Systems/Enterprise:
FOUNDRY EXPANDS GRID ENTERPRISE LAN
SWITCHING PRODUCT
Foundry Networks Inc, a leading provider of
high-performance
enterprise and
service provider switching, routing and Web traffic management
solutions,
announced the expansion of its intelligent enterprise switch family
with two
new fixed-configuration Layer 2 edge switches. The new EdgeIron
2402CF and
4802CF switches, extend Foundry's enterprise product offering to
deliver
aggressively priced Layer 2 switches for cost-sensitive enterprise
customers.
These new switches offer 24 and 48 10/100 Ethernet ports
along with two
integrated Gigabit Ethernet combo ports, giving customers the
choice of using
built-in Gigabit copper or mini-GBIC slots, leading to
additional cost savings
and media flexibility. Backed by Foundry's world class
technical support and
customer services, the new EdgeIron products offer
corporations a cost-
effective Layer 2 workgroup and wiring closet
solution.
The new switches complement Foundry's complete line of
proven enterprise LAN
switching offerings including the BigIron Layer 3
backbone switches, the
FastIron Layer 2/3 switches, and the FastIron Edge
switches.
"There is a definite market opportunity based upon the
innovation track record
of Foundry Networks for a wide variety of
high-performance network
applications," said Zeus Kerravala, research director
of Yankee Group.
"The new EdgeIron platforms enable existing Foundry
customers to offer
intelligent solutions and aggressively-priced products
without hindering high-speed performance and high-end feature requirements
that enterprise customers
demand of their networking vendor," added
Kerravala.
Building the Best Switch for Every Market The EdgeIron
product family offers
complete standard Layer 2 capabilities including Link
Aggregation Protocol
(802.3ad) for bandwidth aggregation and redundancy along
with Rapid Spanning
Tree or 802.1W for rapid recovery from fiber cuts or port
failures.
With integrated Quality of Service (QoS) features based on
802.1p, the
EdgeIron switches can prioritize business-critical application
traffic such as
Voice-over-IP (VOIP). Foundry's EdgeIron switches deliver
wire-speed
performance, superior port density, and measure only one rack unit
high. The
EdgeIron 2402CF and 4802CF are excellent choices for wiring closet
and
workgroup applications.
With an easy-to-use industry-standard
Command Line Interface (CLI), Telnet-based interface, Web-based Graphical User
Interface (GUI), standard Simple
Network Management Protocol (SNMP) interface,
and RADIUS-based authentication,
EdgeIron products are easy and secure to
configure, deploy, and maintain.
The new EdgeIron switches are
integrated with Foundry's IronView Network
Manager allowing centralized
management of all Foundry products. Pricing and

2402CF offers 24 10/100 Ethernet ports and 2 Gigabit
combo ports with
integrated Gigabit copper or mini-GBIC slots for media
expansion. The US list
