Systems/Enterprise:
SECURE COMPUTING SHIPS GRID
FIREWALLS
Secure Computing Corporation, an expert in protecting the most important
networks in the world, announced the release of its new, enterprise strong,
next-generation firewall technology. This hybrid firewall system, created by
bringing together the best technologies from its Sidewinder and Gauntlet
firewalls, completes phase-one of the next generation firewall roadmap Secure
Computing committed to after acquiring Gauntlet in 2002.
The SidewinderG2 Firewall incorporates Secure's patented Type Enforcement
technology and performance-enhanced SecureOS UNIX from Sidewinder and next-
generation application proxy and enterprise management features from Gauntlet
running on a variety of Dell PowerEdge server platforms. Sidewinder G2
Firewall supports over 1,000,000 concurrent connections, wire-speed stateful
inspection processing, multi-threaded proxies that load balance layer 7
application filtering across four Intel Xeon processors in a new high-end
appliance, all managed from a powerful next-generation Windows management
tool.
Complementing the Sidewinder G2 Firewall is a new market entry from Secure
Computing, the Sidewinder G2 Enterprise Manager: an enterprise strong security
appliance. G2 Enterprise Manager delivers both single-point policy management
and an audit-log & configuration back-up repository for hundreds of Sidewinder
G2 Firewalls, all centrally managed from a highly intuitive Windows-based
software package. The Sidewinder G2 Enterprise Manager is the only centralized
firewall management solution available that is available on a secure operating
system: Secure's SecureOS UNIX.
This hardened version of UNIX, protected by Secure's patented Type
Enforcement
technology, has never been compromised. In G2 Enterprise Manager, SecureOS
includes an integrated SQL database that securely stores customers' network
access policies and highly sensitive audit logs so that they cannot be stolen,
modified or corrupted in any way.
"Malicious hackers have recently begun to leverage the ubiquity of port 80
Web
traffic to launch newer application layer attacks," said Jason Wright,
security technologies industry analyst for Frost & Sullivan. "The Sidewinder
G2 Firewall's hybrid architecture supports both stateful packet filtering and
application layer (layer 7) filtering. Since typical stateful inspection
firewalls are not capable of deep packet inspection, the hybrid technology
implemented by Secure's G2 Firewall provides a higher level of protection
against the most recent and effective evolution in Web threats."
Sidewinder G2 Firewall and G2 Enterprise Manager have been designed to
appeal
to the IT department with high-performance and enterprise management for
multiple firewalls, and to Secure's existing Gauntlet and Sidewinder firewall
customers.
"It is no surprise to us that Secure Computing once again delivers on a key
promise," said Wes Kaufmann, president at Open Systems and Data Solutions. "We
have existing Sidewinder and Gauntlet clients and will recommend that they
migrate to the Sidewinder G2 Firewall as soon as possible. We're delighted
with the new firewall's management tools, dependability and performance. The
fact that it is a next-generation enhancement to the world's strongest
firewall gives us continued confidence going forward that our client's network
perimeter will remain secure."
Sidewinder G2 Firewall and the G2 Enterprise Manager deliver a complete
enterprise strong package that addresses key customer requirements, including:
a full range of appliance platform options, simple Power-It-On deployment,
single-point policy management for hundreds of distributed firewalls,
highly-available architectures that deliver continuous up-time, and
Gigabit-plus
performance -- all hosted on the SecureOS UNIX.
"Enterprise customers are looking for a grid distributed firewall solution
that can be centrally managed, is reliable, fast and secure. They can find
that solution today at Secure Computing with our new Sidewinder G2 Firewall
and G2 Enterprise Manager appliances," said Mike Gallagher, vice president and
general manager of the Network Security Division at Secure Computing. "We have
delivered on phase-one of our promise to our Gauntlet and Sidewinder
customers. The final phase-two release in 2003 will not only meet, but exceed
the promise. Stay tuned."
