SGI Launches User Group To Help
Promote Grid Computing
Linux and IRIX system users will share forum for exchanging ideas and
techniques to optimize their high-performance and grid computing experience.
At the LinuxWorld Conference & Expo, SGI announced plans to form a worldwide
SGI User Group. Encompassing users of both Linux and IRIX operating systems,
the new SGI User Group will establish a community for SGI customers, enabling
them to share information and learn how to get even more technical
productivity from the company's high-performance computing and visualization
systems.
To introduce the program to customers, SGI will host its first annual
Technical Users' Conference June 12-13 in Mountain View, California. The event
will give SGI customers an opportunity to network, to share challenges and
learn technical solutions, and to provide feedback to SGI on existing and
future products.
"Scientists, engineers and other technical computing users face increasingly
unique challenges," said Bob Bishop, chairman and CEO of SGI.
"As SGI's highly scalable Linux and IRIX systems set performance records for
technical computing, high-performance users will benefit tremendously from
regular interaction with colleagues involved in similar pursuits. The SGI User
Group will help these customers establish and nurture a global community of
like-minded professionals-and will give SGI an opportunity to integrate even
closer to our customer base."
Open to all SGI customers in every industry, the SGI Technical Users'
Conference will cover all systems, with a focus on technical users. SGI will
waive registration fees for customers who attend the inaugural conference. In
the near future, SGI will debut a special user group Web site with additional
event details and allowing customers to register online for the June technical
conference and submit proposals for papers to be presented.
As the SGI User Group solidifies in the coming months, the site will serve as
the portal for member registration, for information collection, coordination,
and dissemination, and for fostering online community.
