Breaking News - Security:

Trendium Ships ConfigSENTRY & Management Application

Trendium Inc, a leading provider of service intelligence software for service providers and enterprises, announced the launch of ConfigSENTRY, an innovative application that gives customers a single point of control over the configuration of devices across their network.

The new application, which plugs into Trendium's award-winning ServicePATH service intelligence system, has been installed at Progress Telecom, a leading provider of broadband network services in the Eastern U.S.

ConfigSENTRY meets the need among network administrators to prevent or minimize network and service problems and failures caused by device mis- configuration by un-authorized users. ConfigSENTRY ensures that only authorized users are allowed to configure each device in the network, and maintains and logs all such configurations by user and device.

This enables network administrators to quickly retrace problematic configurations in the event of network outages.

ConfigSENTRY offers a wide range of configuration, security and management functions that collectively enable single-point control of device configurations across distributed networks:

  • User Authorization Management:

  • Eliminates the need for multiple logins to multiple devices; each user has a single login for configuration access to all authorized devices.

  • Session management:

  • Manages and supports hundreds of user sessions, overcoming the limitations of many devices that support only a handful of user sessions.

  • Connection management:

  • Manages connections to each device, so users do not have to establish or maintain connections to individual devices, but simply focus on configuration commands.

ConfigSENTRY validates each command sent by a user based on the user group's authority level for the specific device. After validation, commands then take a single route to reach the desired network element. Results obtained from the network element are then routed back to user via ConfigSentry.

The first release of ConfigSENTRY supports the TL/1 network communication protocol, enhancing the ease of connection to and configuration of network elements using this protocol.

"ConfigSENTRY consolidates control of device configurations across our multi- vendor, multi-technology network into a single, managed system," said Lynne Craver, vice president of network operations at Progress Telecom. "With ConfigSENTRY, we no longer have to worry about authentication and communication with each TL/1 device, or about unauthorized access rights involving network element configurations. This simplifies user administration for system access, which allows us to more efficiently manage our network."

"With ConfigSENTRY, customers can now truly organize and manage the process and workflow of device configuration," according to Deepak Swamy, Senior Vice President, Marketing at Trendium.

"ConfigSENTRY lets customers define user groups with different privileges and access rights for groups of devices. Users configure only those devices they are trained and authorized to access. By giving network administrators a single point of configuration control, ConfigSENTRY prevents many configuration-related network problems while generating significant operational cost savings."

The ConfigSENTRY application is licensed with Trendium's award-winning ServicePATH product, and is available immediately.
