Packeteer's ICX-95 Speeds

Packeteer Inc, a leading provider of application traffic management
systems, announced the AppCelera ICX-95 and ICX-95s Internet Content
Accelerators -- the newest additions to the first line of products to combine
SSL offload with last-mile Web acceleration.
The AppCelera ICX-95 handles more connections/sec and greater throughput
capacity than previous platforms while reducing response times of web
applications by as much as 80%(an improvement of up to 500%).
The ICX-95s accelerates secure applications by processing over 300 SSL
transactions/sec and handling all of the CPU intensive SSL key negotiations
and encryption functions.
"The drastic rise in the use of Web-based applications for mission-critical
business processes necessitates that customers seek out solutions that offer
increase in end user performance," said Mark Fabbi, a vice president of
research at Gartner.
"These solutions enable the development of an end-to-end infrastructure
that gives enterprises as much as a tenfold increase in performance and
scalability of web-based applications." The latest software running on the
AppCelera ICX- 95 features enhanced reporting capabilities, giving users easy-
to-read graphs and charts based on a variety of metrics including server, IP
address range, URL, mime type, connection speed or other criteria.
The user interface enables users to "drill-down" into specific areas of
standard or custom reports to obtain further details. And, with historical
reporting features, AppCelera ICX-95 users also have more information not only
about how their applications are performing, but also how load and traffic are
changing over time.
Each AppCelera ICX-95 base unit contains a dedicated SSL encryption/key
processor card for optional Secure Content Acceleration that is activated by a
software key upgrade. The base model is suited for accelerating mission-
critical, web- based applications across the enterprise intranet. The ICX-95s
accelerates secure business applications that require more security and
encryption technologies.
AppCelera ICX-95 is an appliance-based Internet content accelerator based
on Packeteer's C3 Technology, combining application-intelligent caching,
compression, and conversion to accelerate the performance of web applications
from server to desktop.
"The newest platform of the AppCelera line, the ICX-95, provides greater
scalability and performance," said Steve House, senior product marketing
manager for the AppCelera ICX product line, "allowing the product to satisfy
the requirements of larger application environments with fewer boxes than
before."
The AppCelera ICX-95 is currently available, with a list price of $24,000
U.S. for the product without SSL offload and $28,000 U.S. with the SSL
capability.
