INFINICON WINS PRODUCT OF THE YEAR WITH GRID
CLUSTERING
InfiniCon Systems, the premier provider of shared
I/O and switching solutions
for next-generation server networks, announced
today that its InfinIO 7000
Shared I/O and
Clustering System has won the 2003 "Product of the Year"
accolade at the
prestigious Server I/O Conference, held January 20-22 in
Monterey,
California.
This is the second consecutive year that InfiniCon has
been recognized at
the industry-wide conference, following last year's award
as "Emerging
Company of the Year - I/O Technology."
The Server I/O
Conference Product of the Year Award is won by the best new
product that
entered general availability during the previous year, and cannot
include
upgrades to previous products. Criteria for evaluation include the
scope of
the product's impact or contribution, its revenue generation, or its
role in
starting an important new trend.
Over 25,000 online votes were
received against 55 products, people, and
companies nominated for the awards
to establish the finalists in each of six
separate categories, including
management software, server technology, storage
networking technology and I/O
technology.
Actual conference attendees -- which include key industry
executives,
technology suppliers, financial institutions, analysts, experts
and end users
-- conducted final voting for the Server I/O Awards program in
person while at
the conference.
Launched in September 2002, the
InfinIO 7000 is the industry's first external
I/O system that leverages the
InfiniBand architecture to deliver standards-based, low-latency, 10Gb
networking for the commodity server and storage
arena. Its combination of
high-speed switching and shared I/O capabilities are
key enablers for building
an infrastructure capable of supporting the
scalability and management
requirements of grid, fabric, and cluster-based
computing.
As a
result, commodity servers can be deployed in hours versus days, and
grouped
together to form larger compute images, while the cost of providing
connectivity to these servers is slashed by an average of over 40%.
"Our Server I/O Conference is the only forum that brings together the
thought
leaders in the data center infrastructure industries to develop a
unifying
vision of the future," said Michael Peterson, president of Strategic
Research
Corporation.
"Over the past few years, the companies
recognized by our awards have made
significant contributions to their
respective industries and I am confident
that InfiniCon will carry on this
tradition. We look forward to tracking the
success of InfiniCon as they
continue to make great strides with their
products."
"We are delighted
to have been considered for this prestigious award in
competition with
respected industry giants such as IBM, Computer Associates
and HP," said
InfiniCon CEO Charles Foley.
"To actually be selected and honored for
the second consecutive year by the
industry at-large is an achievement of
which the entire InfiniCon team is
extremely proud." Founded in 1998, the
Server I/O Conference & Tradeshow
delivers timely and targeted content to a
highly focused audience responsible
for identifying, evaluating, selecting and
purchasing enterprise systems and
I/O technologies.
