CA EXTENDS LEADERSHIP IN GRID
ENTERPRISE LINUX MARKET
12 new grid distributed and mainframe solutions available to manage,
secure,
preserve and integrate Linux-Based resources
Computer Associates International Inc (CA) further extended its
leadership in the enterprise Linux software market with 12 new solutions for
managing, securing, preserving, integrating and leveraging open-source
technology. CA now offers more than 60 solutions to support Linux in the
heterogeneous enterprise.
For grid distributed and mainframe Linux environments, CA has released new
versions of Unicenter Management for WebSphere, Unicenter Management Portal,
eTrust Web Access Control and CleverPath Aion Business Rules Expert. For
distributed environments, CA has released BrightStor ARCserve Backup agents
for Apache and MySQL. For mainframe environments, CA has released new versions
of Unicenter Network and Systems Management Job Management Option and
Advantage CA-Easytrieve.
"Organizations have moved past the experimental pilot stage with Linux and
are
now implementing systems that are central to their core business needs," said
Sam Greenblatt, senior vice president and chief architect of CA's Linux
Technology Group. "CA is strongly supporting these customers with a complete
portfolio of Linux infrastructure and information management solutions
specifically designed to integrate those Linux resources into the larger
enterprise technology landscape."
CA's solutions enable organizations deploying Linux and open source
technology
to take advantage of Linux platforms for critical enterprise applications. For
customers using Apache Web servers, for example, CA's Apache agent for
BrightStor ARCserve Backup, coupled with the company's existing Unicenter
Management for Web Servers, provides a comprehensive solution for both system
and data availability. For customers implementing WebSphere on Linux, the new
version of Unicenter Management for WebSphere provides end-to-end support
across both mainframe and distributed environments. This solution can also be
implemented with CA's AllFusion Harvest Change Manager to provide highly
optimized management for WebSphere Studio-developed applications.
The new Linux version of CA's CleverPath Aion Business Rules Expert also
supports both distributed and mainframe environments, and applies customized
business rules to even the largest volumes of mainframe data. These rules can
be used to automate key business processes, improve executive decision-making,
reduce risk and pinpoint profitable market opportunities.
Enterprise customers are adopting CA's Linux solutions, which have won 11
awards for excellence in the last two years alone, as part of their overall
infrastructure and information management strategies. Customers implementing
Linux on the mainframe under VM, for example, are taking advantage of CA's
robust suite of technology for VM management.
"The government's job is to use taxpayer money to provide public services
as
efficiently as possible, so we are always looking for technologies that enable
us to maintain high availability at low cost," said Sung Kim, technical
services manager at the Information Technology Agency for the City of Los
Angeles. "CA's eTrust and VM/Manager Suite for Linux and CA Services will be
instrumental in helping us to achieve that goal as we continue to optimize our
multi-image mainframe Linux operations."
CA continues to work closely with the Linux community to ensure full
compatibility of its solutions with major distributions, including Red Hat and
the UnitedlLinux group. As a founding member of the Open Source Development
Lab (OSDL), CA is also working with OSDL to create enterprise-class
enhancements for Linux.
