SGI Hosts Conference And Press
Activities At LinuxWorld
Announcements to spotlight new generation of high-Performance solutions
for
open-source computing.
On the heels of the worldwide debut of its record-setting SGI Altix 3000
family of servers and grid superclusters, SGI will host a news conference and
an array of press activities at LinuxWorld, Jan. 22-24, to spotlight the
rapidly growing base of support for extreme Linux computing among users of
technical and scientific applications.
NEWS CONFERENCE
WHAT: Several news announcements will focus on answering the escalating
demand for scalable, high-performance Linux solutions for science, engineering
and other technical applications.
Joining SGI are Richard Wirt, general manager of Intel's Software and
Solutions Group and Intel senior fellow, Enterprise Platform Group and Jon
"maddog" Hall, executive director, Linux International. Jan Silverman, senior
vice president for SGI, will host.

SCIENCE APPLICATIONS ROUNDTABLE FOR JOURNALISTS
WHAT: This roundtable discussion for journalists will cover applications
for SGI Altix 3000 across a wide spectrum of science disciplines.
Event will feature SGI's Dan Stevens, Ph.D., marketing manager, life and
chemical sciences, and Addison Snell, SGI product marketing manager.
WHEN: Starts at 9:30 a.m., Wednesday, Jan. 22.

EXTREME LINUX TECHNOLOGY DEMONSTRATIONS AND TALKS
WHAT: Advanced technical computing applications scaled to 64 Intel Itanium
2 processors on a single system image will be demonstrated. Applications
include real-world examples of computational fluid dynamics, chemical modeling
simulations and weather system visualizations running in SGI's optimized Linux
environment. Also on display will be Visual Area Network and storage area
network technology.
Daily presentations will be hosted by SGI representatives and guests,
including Jon "maddog" Hall, executive director of Linux International, on
topics including "Scaling Linux," "Porting Linux to Big Iron," "Global Shared
Memory," and "Extreme Linux."
