PRISM GT WLAN MOVES DATA FASTER
OVER THE GRID
Intersil Corporation, a world leader in the design and manufacture of
high- performance analog and wireless networking solutions, announced that D-
Link Systems Inc, a leading manufacturer of networking, data communications
and digital electronic technologies, has selected Intersil's PRISM GT Wireless
Local Area Networking (WLAN) chip set to provide 802.11g connectivity for D-
Link's new AirPlus Xtreme G DI-624 Wireless Router with 4-Port Switch and the
AirPlus Xtreme G DWL-G650 Wireless CardBus Adapter.
"Intersil's PRISM GT technology delivers the best of both 802.11a -- speed,
with the best of 802.11b -- range, and is fully compatible with any 802.11b
radio," said Steven Joe, president of D-Link. "The AirPlus Xtreme G DI-624
Wireless Router with 4-Port Switch and the AirPlus Xtreme G DWL-G650 Wireless
CardBus Adapter further illustrates D-Link's commitment to provide easy to use
and affordable products to meet the explosive demand for competitive wireless
solutions."
The PRISM GT chip set combines the 802.11g Draft Standard's mandatory
modulation schemes -- Complementary Code Keying (CCK) used in 802.11b and
Orthogonal Frequency Division Multiplexing (OFDM) used in 802.11a. Intersil
design engineers have skillfully incorporated these modulation schemes with
Intersil's proven low-cost Zero-IF (ZIF) architecture, which allows what is
called direct down conversion of radio frequency signals, in crafting the
PRISM GT chip set. Designed to support the new 802.11g high-rate Draft
Standard for WLAN products operating in the 2.4 GHz band, PRISM GT provides
twice the range and throughput for currently marketed 802.11a products and
over three times the throughput of 802.11b products.
"Intersil's PRISM GT technology enables D-Link's new AirPlus Xtreme G
networking products to deliver very fast 54 Mbps data rates over the same 2.4
GHz frequency band used by millions of 802.11b (11 Mbps) radios," said Larry
Ciaccia, vice president and general manager of Intersil's Wireless Networking
Product Group. "This allows for a typical home or small office to be easily
covered by a single D-Link AirPlus Xtreme G wireless router delivering true
OFDM-based performance while providing seamless backwards compatibility with
802.11b network adapters."
