NCSA EXPLAINS THE GRID
Unless you've been living under a rock for the last few years, you are well
aware that "grid" has become one of the first buzz words of the 21st
century.
Grids take the Internet farther than could've been imagined
only a decade ago,
and will make the best computing resources and applications
available
globally.
But grids are more than large, distributed,
high-performance computers. Grids
will bring massive databases, stores of
research knowledge, visualization
environments, and research tools to
scientists, students, and business people
worldwide.
The National
Center for Supercomputing Applications (NCSA) plays a critical
role in the
evolution of grids. The National Science Foundation's TeraGrid
project, led by
NCSA and four other institutions, will take grids to a new
level, providing
the world's largest distributed infrastructure for open
scientific
research.
