Systems/Enterprise:

TECH DATA AND SUN SIGN FIRST DISTRIBUTION AGREEMENT

Tech Data Corporation, a leading worldwide provider of IT products, logistics management and other value-added services, has gained its enterprise-scale offerings through a distribution agreement with Sun Microsystems Inc.

Tech Data will carry the manufacturer's new LX50 server and StorEdge 3310 SCSI Array, providing U.S. channel partners with an opportunity to sell and support advanced server and storage products in small-to-midsize-business (SMB) markets.

Tech Data will support Sun's LX50 server and StorEdge 3310 SCSI Array through a comprehensive channel program that includes technical services, marketing, business development and enterprise-level solutions for its reseller customers. Tech Data currently offers Sun Cobalt appliances to its reseller customers.

"Resellers are looking to satisfy end-user customers by providing high-quality, affordable server and storage technologies with enterprise-class performance and management functionality," said Elio Levy, Tech Data's senior vice president of marketing.

"From the high-end, to entry-level, Tech Data will now provide resellers with Sun Microsystems technologies that meet the business, technical and cost requirements of SMB customers."

"This agreement provides us with a strategic avenue for engaging customers in the SMB/Linux market and furthering Sun Linux in the marketplace through Tech Data's network of resellers," said Gary Grimes, vice president U.S. Partner Management and Sales of Sun Microsystems Inc.

"We chose to work with Tech Data because of its breadth of knowledge in high-quality server technologies and the premium customer service displayed by its sales professionals." Sun's LX50 is a general-purpose 32-bit x86 system and includes software for edge applications, compute farms, high-performance and technical computing or custom application deployment.

The software can be used for Web serving, e-mail, grid computing, streaming media, databases and Web commerce. Software applications include: Java 2 SDK Standard Edition, Sun ONE ASP for Linux, TomCat (JSP), MySQL (Database), Apache (Webserver), WU-FTPD (FTP), Sendmail (Email Server), Bind (DNS Server), Sun Grid Engine and Sun Streaming Server.

The Sun StorEdge 3310 SCSI array meets a variety of workgroup requirements by providing affordable enterprise-class performance and availability features, management functionality, and configuration flexibility.

The product also holds one or two RAID controllers and supports up to two 2U-high/12-drive expansion arrays, for a total of up to 36 disks. As a key component in a storage network, the system connects to host servers via industry-standard PCI SCSI host bus-adapters, and to local/remote management consoles via standard SCSI, serial, and Ethernet connections.

Resellers interested in the Sun LX50 server and/or Sun StorEdge 3310 SCSI Array should contact Tech Data's sales team at 800-237-8931.
