Server Blade Summit 2003: New
Rules For Server Grid Farms
Blade Trade Association To Debut During March 4-6 Event in San Jose,
CA.
Server Blade Summit 2003 the only worldwide conference and exhibition
dedicated to the server blade technology segment, will take place on March
4-6, 2003 at the Wyndham San Jose.
This year's event will focus on the "new rules" that are expected to arise
in
data centers, telecom equipment, and server farms as blade technologies emerge
as a disruptive force to entrenched grid enterprise computing and
telecommunications platforms.
The newly formed Server Blade Trade Association will convene for the first
time at this event.
Tom Bradicich, chief technology officer for IBM's xSeries Intel server
group,
will deliver the keynote address, "Seven Benefits of Blade Architectures."
Anil Vasudeva, principal analyst at IMEX Research, also will deliver a special
address on "The State of the Server Blade Market."
"Server Blade Summit 2003 provides a unique forum to directly participate
in
the forefront of one of the fastest growing segments in the server industry,"
said Dr. Lance Leventhal, conference director of Server Blade Summit 2003.
"Technologists, business managers and investors from around the world will
gather at Server Blade Summit to explore the "new rules" for managing server
farms. With these new environments we expect many of the traditional 'rules'
of computing to be rewritten -- from systems management, to application
scaling, to systems failover, and everything in between."
This is the second annual Server Blade Summit.
The highly focused technology conference and exposition includes tutorials,
workshops, panels and general sessions on key topics that hardware and
software developers, administrators and integrators will find essential in
their 2003 server plans. Conference topics will include: server blade
management, emerging standards, data center applications, security,
interfaces, XML services, grid, supercomputing and business issues.
The newly formed Server Blade Trade Association will convene for the first
time at the Server Blade Summit 2003 conference, and all attendees will be
welcome to join. SBTA is an independent, not-for-profit organization of server
blade manufacturers, software suppliers, users, system integrators and other
interested parties established to serve as a clearinghouse for information
about server blades, provide a focus for extending and improving standards,
and promote their use in enterprise, telecom and other applications.
SBTA will also be concerned with other types of blades, including compute
blades, appliance blades, security blades, storage blades, database and
operating system acceleration blades, as well as blade-related backplanes,
interconnections, power distribution systems, physical interfaces and
software.
Server Blade Summit speakers will include executives from leading hardware
and
software vendors and industry organizations including IBM, HP, Intel, Sun,
Avocent, Force Computers, StarGen, BladeLogic, EE Times, RLX Technologies, F5
Networks, Mellanox, PolyServe, IMEX Research, Paceline, TopSpin, FalconStor,
OmniCluster, Egenera, JMR, Jareva, Inkra Networks, Alacritech, ServerWorks,
StoneFly Networks, CoroSoft, Adaptec, StorageTek and Performance Technologies.
Media sponsors include Applied Computing Technologies, CompactPCI Systems,
Network Magazine and Communications News.
A discounted full conference pass is available for $995 until Feb. 1, 2003,
and for $1,195 thereafter.
About the Keynote Speaker Tom Bradicich
Since 1998, Tom has directed the xSeries Architecture and Technology
organization, in Research Triangle Park, North Carolina, where he is
responsible for the architecture and technology of IBM's Intel-based server
line. Recently, Tom was named an IBM Distinguished Engineer, an exclusive
honor given to technical executives who set the product and technology
direction for the IBM company.
Tom has served on the faculty at several universities, and is currently an
adjunct professor in the college of Management and the college of Computer and
Electrical Engineering at North Carolina State University. Tom holds a B.S.,
M.S., and Ph.D. in electrical engineering from University of Florida.
About Server Blades
Server blades are a new generation of highly advanced, ultra-dense server
environments.
A server blade is essentially an entire server that fits on a single card,
or
blade, and contains the cpu, memory, and networking components necessary to
run applications.
These blades are then plugged into a single chassis that can accommodate
upwards of 24 server blades in the space previously occupied by one
traditional server. When comparing a standard 6' data center rack,
administrators could deploy 272 server blades, versus 21 low-profile PC
servers, or 8 large UNIX servers.
In addition to delivering an ultra-dense server environment, server blades
offer extremely low power consumption, breakthrough "economies of scale" and a
new level of "economies of skill" through its plug-and-play design.
Gartner DataQuest predicts that worldwide server blade shipments will
increase
from 84,410 units in 2002 to more than 1 million in 2006. The IT research firm
anticipates that revenue from server blades will reach at least $1.2 billion
during this time.
Blades are becoming big business and one segment of the server market that
is
experiencing escalating growth.
