WEB-SERVICE BASED GRID MARKET DIRECTORY-SOFTWARE RELEASE

The University of Melbourne, Australia, has released the first version of Grid service publication directory, called the Grid Market Directory (GMD).

The GMD software, implemented using Webservices technologies, has been demonstrated at the SC 2002 conference, Baltimore, USA.

The GMD software components include:

  • GMD Portal Manager: It is responsible for Web browser requests and generates web pages dynamically. The GMD Portal Manager is built on a web server.
  • GMD Query Web-Services: It provides Web-Service access to the directory. Consumer's program can query GMD by using Simple Object Access Protocol (SOAP).
  • GMD Repository: It is a database for service info.
  • GMD Query client APIs: Those APIs can be integrated with consumers programs; the developers of the such program only need to invoke the APIs directly without concerning presentation and transport layer technologies, such as SOAP and XML.

The clients can invoke GMD services as a webservice. To test usefulness of thge GMD services, Srikumar Venugopal, one of the Gridbus project members, has used GMD web service within an Application Service-Cost based Grid scheduler for identifying service cost and type of resource/services.

All components developed as part of the Gridbus Project are released as "open source" under the GPL license to encourage innovation and pass full freedom to our users.

The contributors to the GMD software are:

  • Rajkumar Buyya, GRIDS Lab at University of Melbourne
  • Jia Yu, GRIDS Lab at University of Melbourne
